Loss and Light

This year I lost a lot. My father. Some very dear friends. Some confidence, some hope, some patience, some faith, some sleep, some of myself. This past week, during the Hanukkah celebration, as I was reviewing all that loss, the love of my life asked me to take a deep breath and list some of the things I gained and some of the things I’m thankful for. It was a wonderfully long list with that love of my life at the very top of it. We light candles for those we’ve lost and more candles to lead us out of the darkness. A new decade is at hand and I’m seeing a lot of light ahead.
